Have you ever heard someone saying that he or she has heard the voice of God? This may be hard to believe at first but it is certainly true that God can speak to each one of us. Yes, it may be easier to believe that God can speak to “spiritual giants” like Abraham, Moses, and Elijah but to believe that God can speak to normal Christians like you and me may seem close to impossible. However, if we read the Bible more closely, we will find that God didn’t just speak to mighty, anointed leaders of His people. When God chose to reveal the birth of His Son Jesus Christ on earth, He didn’t just reveal it to the rich, wise men.  He also revealed it to poor, lowly, unknown shepherds. “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And the more that we understand the ways of a person, the more we know how that person will think and act in different situations. The same goes with our God and our relationship with Him. He has His own ways of thinking and acting. David prayed to the Lord in Psalm 25:4 to show him God's ways and teach him God's paths. He wanted to know God’s very heart. Rest is such a necessity yet is a rare find to many. Everybody wants it but not all know how and where to get it. There is a road that leads to rest that is available to all and it is a path that can be found in the Scripture. Each of us has our own cares and anxieties in life. There are times when we find ourselves so stressed out that we just want to give up. But instead of worrying, striving, and succumbing to defeat, the Apostle Peter encourages us in 1 Peter 5:6-7 to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt us in due time, casting all our care upon Him, for He cares for us. The Greek word used for “casting” in this verse is “ EPIRIPTÓ ” which means to throw upon or to place upon. It is used in the same context of the triumphal entry of Jesus when the disciples threw their clothes upon the colt (Luke 19:35).  It implies totally letting go and letting the other person receive and carry the burden. The rock badger In life, we face a lot of difficulties which could easily weigh us down. Yet, the Scripture presents to us four small creatures that can encourage us and reveal the purposes of God for us. Proverbs 30:24-28 speaks of four creatures that are called little yet are exceedingly wise. The passage spoke of their challenges and how through wisdom they overcame. Just like these little animals we too can overcome through wisdom. Let us take a look at the four creatures. 1. The Ants “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer” - Proverbs 30:25 The ants show the wisdom of hard work and preparing well. They do not procrastinate and they anticipate a time of difficulty. Some ants store their food in summer and feed on it during winter, while others gather in summer, eat it during fall and hibernate in winter. They gather food at a time when they still can as they prepare for seasons when they can no longer forage. This could speak to us t...

A new year speaks of a fresh start for all of us. Most of us hope that this will be a good year and that by the grace of God, it will be a year of better responses, better attitudes, and better words. We hope that it will be a year of deeper knowledge and higher level of maturity. We may have made wrong decisions in the past year that led to failures and missed opportunities. We may have hurt the heart of God through our words and actions towards other people. But the Lord desires for us to come before Him with a repentant heart and experience a fresh start. We pray that this will be a year of yearning for more of God in our lives. Most of us, if not all, are familiar with the Parable of the Lost Son as seen in Luke 15:11-24.
