WHAT YOU SOW YOU SHALL REAP

Image
Many of us, if not all, are familiar with the verse “what you sow, you shall reap.” For sure a farmer understands this very well. If he wants to harvest apples, he plants apple seeds and not mango seeds. If he sows wheat, he shall also reap wheat. Simple as that. But what does this verse from Galatians 6:7 actually mean to us? As we take a closer look at the principles of sowing and reaping, we will understand what it means and how we can apply it in our everyday lives. I. What you sow you will reap. As this verse is true in agriculture, so it is in the life choices we make. Every kind of seed will produce fruit like itself. And so it is with regard to our works. If we sow love and kindness towards other people, we will also be treated the same. If we sow hatred and bitterness, the same treatment will also be shown to us. Luke 6:45 tells us that a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings f...

THE BATTLE AGAINST SOULISHNESS

Image
Man is composed of three parts – body , soul , and spirit (Caram 75). The body is the tangible part of man while the soul and the spirit are the intangible parts. But even though the latter two are intangible, the soul and the spirit are actually very different. The spirit is our very life and heart.  It is the part of us which God breathed into when He first created man. It is the part of us which is able to truly worship God and communicate with Him. In contrast, the soul is the seat of our emotions, moods, personality, imaginations, and biases. Being “soulish” means being controlled by our emotions. It is being easily swayed by emotional highs and lows. This is why “soulishness” can lead to feelings of depression, discouragement, and self-pity (Caram 77). Oftentimes, it is the soul and the body ruling over our spirits. But this is not how it is supposed to be. What God meant for us is that His Holy Spirit would rule over our spirits, which would then control our soul...

LEARNING FROM WISE LITTLE CREATURES

Image
The rock badger In life, we face a lot of difficulties which could easily weigh us down. Yet, the Scripture presents to us four small creatures that can encourage us and reveal the purposes of God for us. Proverbs 30:24-28 speaks of four creatures that are called little yet are exceedingly wise. The passage spoke of their challenges and how through wisdom they overcame. Just like these little animals we too can overcome through wisdom. Let us take a look at the four creatures. 1. The Ants “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer” - Proverbs 30:25 The ants show the wisdom of hard work and preparing well. They do not procrastinate and they anticipate a time of difficulty. Some ants store their food in summer and feed on it during winter, while others gather in summer, eat it during fall and hibernate in winter. They gather food at a time when they still can as they prepare for seasons when they can no longer forage. This could speak to us t...

POUNDS AND TALENTS

Source: www.LumoProject.com "Do business till I come." This is the word of instruction of the nobleman to his servants in the parable of the minas which Jesus spoke of in Luke 19:11-27. The same command is true to us today as He has entrusted each one of us with “minas” of which God will ask us to give an account. Just the thought that Jesus used the word "business" tells us that the ministry God gives to us is "work." And just like a businessman, God expects returns on His investment. In the same way that the nobleman returned to settle accounts with his servants, Jesus will come back again and judgment will begin in His own household – the Church (1 Peter 4:17). In this parable, the citizens hated the nobleman and that tells about the Jews’ rejection of Jesus. The servants are those who believe in the Lord. Ten minas were given to ten servants; therefore, each of the servants received one mina. Source: Sweet Publishing/FreeBibleimages.org Th...
